In the early 20th century spa houses along with small, modestly sized pensions were everywhere to be found. However, architects Böhm Henrik and Hegedűs Ármin from Budapest in planning of a new pride of the spa oasis followed the European scale format. Thermia Palace together with the nearby spa house Irma were finished in 1912, and the eclectic-secessionist style brought to Piešťany a desired hint of bourgeois nobleness. Complete reconstruction of the complex in 2006 made it a five-star luxury hotel. As Thermia Palace still holds its place on the national cultural heritage list, there was no aim to leave the trace of current architectural trends on the historic building. Therefore a special emphasis was placed on detailed study of the original building and all the craftwork that contributed to the excellence of that period. From this perspective, it was the best training for an architect. Reconstruction was carried out in collaboration with other architects, but the investor along with the architect Gabriela Kvetanová of the Memorials Institute in Trnava also greatly contributed to the outcome.
